Stage Kittening Workshop
1:15 PM - 2:15 PM

Stage kittening is one of the “entry level” jobs into the burlesque world. But before you go backstage there are some basic tips, tricks and fundamentals you should know about the often coveted job.

Learn from Detroit’s favorite kitten herself, Eartha Kitten who has stage kittened for shows all over Detroit, including the Dirty Show and Speakeasy Sundays. Topics will include feeling comfortable being a part of the show, how to approach and work with performers you’ve never met, and of course how best to clean up after a messy act. All levels welcome. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and bring a notebook.

Foxy Tann

This on your feet workshop with The Boss of Burlesque aims to get at emotionally engaging performance by “working from the outside in”.  We can only talk about it so much, eventually we have to physically perform for the audience! And that is what The Fox is here to help you do! You will learn some traditional burlesque choreography and using that as a framework, you all will work toward the goals of emotional authenticity and confidence on stage. The physical portion of the class is based in individual attention, bossy encouragement and honest even-handed critique which you will be able to incorporate feedback immediately. Movement attire required. Heels encouraged, but optional.

Choreography Made EASY
3:45 PM -4:45 PM

What is choreography? In a nutshell, choreography is designing & memorizing moments, motion and/or formations to and from the next moment, motion and/or formation. Dancing should complement or enhance the story you’re telling, not distract!  Keep it simple! Standing with beautiful posture and lines can be just as powerful as intricate choreography.  Move right for you and grow from there. In this class we will:

A: Walk and talk stage mapping and the emotional ties of certain spots on stage.

B: Play with exercises to assist in coming up with movement and how to apply and manipulate it.

C: Talk about various ways to memorize what you create.

Please bring: heels, notebook & writing utensil and wear comfortable clothes for movement.

Note: This is a composition style class. Not specifically a “dance” class.  I will not be giving you movement. You will be learning tools & ideas to create your own movement.
